- Now Assist. The umbrella for generative AI features in ITSM, CSM, HRSD, Creator, Field Service, and App Engine.1
- AI Agent Studio and AI Agent Orchestrator. GA from the Yokohama release (announced 12 March 2025); used to build, integrate, and govern custom agents.2
- AI Control Tower. Launched at Knowledge 2025 (6 May 2025) as a centralized command center for any ServiceNow or third-party AI agent, model, or workflow; reached full enterprise-wide observability GA in the Zurich release in late 2025.3 At Knowledge 2026 (5 May 2026), Control Tower added "kill-switch" enforcement plus 30 new integrations across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, SAP, Oracle, and Workday — and was offered free for one year (a $2M list value) to drive adoption.4
- AI Agent Fabric. Launched at Knowledge 2025; lets partner agents (Accenture, Adobe, Box, Cisco, Google Cloud, IBM, Microsoft) interoperate with ServiceNow agents.5
- Workflow Data Fabric. GA, with zero-copy connectors to BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle, and others, providing live data context to Now Assist and AI agents without duplicating data.6
- Autonomous Workforce. Announced at Knowledge 2026; a suite of AI specialists intended to complete entire business processes end-to-end. Rollout is staged across 2026: IT specialists arrive in June 2026, with security specialists not reaching general availability until September 2026.7
What the features actually do (GA vs preview)¶
GA
- Now Assist skills. Across ITSM, CSM, HRSD, and Creator — case summarization, chat summarization, knowledge generation, code generation (text-to-code on ServiceNow-trained models), virtual agent flow design, and resolution notes — all available through the Yokohama (Q1 2025) and Zurich (Q3/Q4 2025) bundles.1
- AI Agent Studio and AI Agent Orchestrator. For building, onboarding, and monitoring custom domain agents.2
- AI Control Tower. Observability, agent-lifecycle dashboards, EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001 compliance monitoring, and a one-click pause/redirect/stop "kill switch" added at Knowledge 2026.8
- Workflow Data Fabric. Zero-copy connectors.6
Preview / early access
- Build Agent. Vibe-coding agentic IDE. The broader Autonomous Workforce specialists were positioned as roadmap/staged-availability at Knowledge 2026, with IT specialists arriving June 2026 and security specialists reaching GA in September 2026.7
- Agentic Playbooks. Combine human-in-the-loop with autonomous workflow steps, surfaced via process and task mining; introduced with Zurich and expanding through 2026.9
Model providers and partnerships¶
ServiceNow runs a multi-tier model strategy:
- Default — Now LLM Service. By default, Now Assist runs on ServiceNow's internal Now LLM Service — a stack combining ServiceNow's in-house Apriel / Apriel Nemotron models with selected open models. The Apriel Nemotron 15B reasoning model launched on 6 May 2025, jointly developed with NVIDIA on DGX Cloud using NeMo and Llama Nemotron datasets plus ServiceNow domain data, and was open-sourced.10 A follow-up, Apriel 2.0 / Apriel 1.5-15B-Thinker, extended the family with multimodal reasoning.11
- Optional third-party models. For select skills, customers can switch the underlying model to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash/Pro, Anthropic Claude 3.7 Sonnet (via Amazon Bedrock), or OpenAI GPT-4.1 / GPT-4.1-mini (via Azure OpenAI).12
- OpenAI. At Knowledge 2026 ServiceNow announced a multi-year strategic partnership to embed OpenAI frontier models (including GPT-5.2) directly into Now Assist for autonomous agents, plus joint development of real-time voice agents and OpenAI "computer use" automation.13
- Microsoft. 2025 expansion covers Now Assist + Microsoft 365 Copilot interoperability, Azure OpenAI as a model backend, and joint go-to-market via Microsoft Marketplace, where ServiceNow saw ~67% year-over-year growth in H1 2025.14
Data handling¶
- Regional processing. When Now Assist features run, customer data leaves the customer instance only temporarily, transmitted (TLS 1.2-encrypted) to ServiceNow regional data centers or Azure Public Cloud infrastructure in the same region as the instance, supporting GDPR-style residency.15
- Training opt-out. By default, ServiceNow does not use customer data to train shared/foundational Now LLM models. "Data sharing for model improvement" is an opt-in/opt-out program managed in the Now Assist admin console or AI Control Tower, and even opted-in data is anonymized and masked before leaving the instance via Data Privacy for Now Assist.16 17
- Federal scope. Now Assist (subset of features), AI Agents, AI Agent Orchestrator, and AI Agent Studio are GA in the FedRAMP High GCC environment; AI Agents, Workflow Data Fabric, and RaptorDB became available to US defense customers at Impact Level 5 (IL5) in the National Security Cloud starting June 2025.18
- Moveworks acquisition. Moveworks from ServiceNow (acquisition closed 15 December 2025) achieved FedRAMP Moderate authorization in early 2026.19
Pricing¶
Now Assist is sold through Pro Plus, Enterprise Plus, and Creator Plus SKUs — add-ons to existing ITSM, CSM, HRSD, or App Engine licenses, purchased per fulfiller, with each seat metered against a quota of "assists" (more complex agentic interactions consuming more assists).20

Independent licensing advisors estimate that for a 500-fulfiller enterprise, Now Assist can add ~$300K-$600K per year — a 25-50% increase over existing platform spend. Treat as directional rather than authoritative.21
Opaque consumption metering
UpperEdge and other independent advisors note that the consumption pricing remains opaque, with limited public visibility into the assist-to-credit conversion ratios per skill.23
Standout¶
Strength
Disclosed adoption + reference deployment. ServiceNow reported Now Assist crossed $600M ACV in Q4 2025, with Q4 net-new ACV more than doubling year-over-year, 35 deals over $1M in the quarter, and Pro Plus deal count up 50%+ quarter-over-quarter.24 In Q1 2026, ServiceNow raised its 2026 Now Assist / AI ACV target from $1B to at least $1.5B, reporting current ACV around $750M and 130%+ year-over-year growth in customers spending more than $1M; deals with three or more Now Assist products grew ~70% year-over-year.25 ServiceNow says its own AI agents now resolve 90% of its internal IT cases 99% faster than human agents.26
Limitation
- Data gravity inside ServiceNow. Now Assist relies heavily on data that already lives inside ServiceNow; reaching into Google Docs, Slack, Notion, or Confluence requires bespoke integration work.27
- Tier-lock + opaque consumption. Opaque consumption pricing combined with tier-locked AI features (Pro → Pro Plus → Enterprise Plus) effectively gates AI behind costly tier upgrades.28
9-second prod-DB deletion incident
A real-world AI agent incident — an agent acquired elevated permissions and deleted a production database in 9 seconds — was cited by CEO Bill McDermott as the motivation for the new AI Control Tower kill-switch capabilities, conceding that agentic AI carries material operational risk.29
